AllerAir 5000 D MCS Supreme UV Overview

Based on the same inert design as our 5000 MCS Supreme, this unit features even more activated carbon and a deeper carbon bed to provide enhanced chemical and odor filtration for people with extreme chemical sensitivities. This unit is also equipped with a micro-HEPA for particle filtration. Purchase of a carbon test kit required with all MCS models. The UV Lamp also kills illness-causing germs. Air Flow and Your AllerAir Air Purifier: We've noticed over the years that clients are very particular when it comes to using their AllerAir unit. Some like to run it 24/7, others only at night, some like to run it on high for a few hours then leave it on low for the rest of the day. So is there a science to choosing your air flow rate? We took this question to our technical department and here's what we learned: Particles: Technically speaking, dust, pollen, hair and other airborne particles actually respond well to a higher setting. That's because the air is drawn-in at a faster rate which make the particles "smack" into the fibrous web of the HEPA filter with greater force. This increases the chance that they'll get stuck in the HEPA. Using the high setting for a few hours may be an excellent "quick fix" strategy if you've just finished brushing your pet or are cleaning out a dusty space, but our technical expert was quick to point out that over the long term it's just as effective to keep your unit on and running on low. This will provide a continuous flow of air that will help keep the air fresh. Chemicals and Odors: For chemical and odor concerns there is a definite consensus ??? low is the way to go. That's due to the specific nature of the activated carbon used in AllerAir air purifiers. Activated carbon contains millions of tiny pores and fissures that trap chemicals, gases and odors. The longer these pollutants are forced to "hang around" in the carbon bed, the better chance they have of being adsorbed.
